ASM DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
The ASM Distinguished Service Award recognises exceptional service of, or contributions by, individuals to the society over a sustained period of time. Posthumous awards will be considered.
Individual ASM members, Committees or Branches, may nominate individual ASM members or organisations for a Distinguished Service Award.
The recipients receive an embossed certificate, announced and presented at the ASM Annual Scientific Meeting.
+ Eligibility Requirements
- Nominees must have been a member of the Society for at least five consecutive years and currently must be a financial member. Membership can be checked by contacting the ASM National Office.
+ Application Requirements
Applications must include:
- A one to two-page letter to the ASM executive outlining in detail the case for the nominee. This letter should include an outline of the nominee’s sustained and significant contributions to the society and must be backed with support attesting to the high personal and professional standards of conduct of the nominee.
- The letter should be endorsed and signed by at least two current ASM members.
- A 35-40 word summary and photograph suitable for publication in Microbiology Australia.
+ Assessment
The Executive Committee will review the nominations received and place those considered acceptable in order of merit. Successful applicants will be notified via email, along with their proposer. In the event an applicant is not successful, only the proposer will be notified. The Executive Committee will present a summary report on nominations received and the names of up to ten recommended awardees to National Council.
*No more than ten Distinguished Service Awards shall be awarded in any one year.
If any additional names were considered acceptable to the Executive Committee but missed out due to the maximum number of awards, they will automatically be included in the following year.
This process shall be repeated for a maximum of three years. At the end of this three-year period, a fresh nomination will be required if consideration is to be continued.
Closing Date for applications: March 31st
