PURPOSE
The main purposes of the Public Health Microbiology SIG are:
To provide a platform for exchange of knowledge and ideas on all aspects of public health microbiology;
To serve as a discussion forum for those interested in public health microbiology across all sectors and career levels
SCOPE
Public Health microbiology is a broad and highly interdisciplinary field that spans human, animal, food, water and environmental microbiology, with a specific focus on human health and disease. Laboratory scientists, epidemiologists, and clinicians work together to provide real world solutions to local and global public health matters.
The ASM Public Health microbiology SIG will have a focus on:
Control, treatment and prevention of human infectious diseases
Detection, isolation and surveillance of microbes important for human health
Career pathways in public health microbiology
The SIG may also serve as a platform for the promotion of training and employment opportunities. Awareness of relevant conferences and award opportunities will also be promoted within this SIG.
