Members elected as fellows to the Australian Academy of Science

 
 

Two of our members, Professor Linda Blackall and Distinguished Professor Ian Paulsen, have been elected Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science.

Linda a is Professor of Environmental Microbiology at The University of Melbourne. She studies complex microbial communities, and describes her major contribution as relating to energy saving in the wastewater treatment field, one of the largest biotechnology industries. Ian is a Distinguished Professor at Macquarie University and known for his research on how ‘superbugs’ acquire their drug resistance. Most recently, he has worked to develop a synthetic yeast which can grow on methanol sources from industrial waste streams. More details on Ian’s election can be found in his citation here.
